CONGRATULATIONS KEVIN!

Congratulations to Kevin, one of New Haven Farm Home’s Support Workers, who received our Spring 2019 Staff Recognition award, acknowledging his constant commitment in encouraging the people we support to achieve their goals.

Kevin has been part of the New Haven Farm Home team for almost 10 years. During this time he has supported our clients as they transitioned from our old style services and accommodation into the person centred support they receive today, assisting each individual to increase their confidence and independence.

Kevin plays an active role on our Work Health and Safety Committee and also assists our team and organisation through a range of general maintenance tasks.

GET TO KNOW DENNIS

Dennis is a friendly man who loves to have a chat. He is knowledgeable about a range of topics and enjoys living in his home at one of New Haven Farm Home’s Richmond sites.

Dennis is very proud of his Aboriginal heritage and enjoys being involved in regular activities and social groups for Aboriginal men which allows him to keep a close and active connection to his heritage.

Each week Dennis attends a pottery class at Blacktown Arts and Craft Group. He has been doing pottery for the past year and it is great to see his skills and talents through his artworks.

Dennis is very clever at repairing and restoring old radios and electronic devices, returning them to working order. He has been supported to set up a workbench area at his home which gives him the space to store his tools and work on a range of woodwork or restoration projects.

His engagement in the local Men’s Shed group is a great way for Dennis to grow in his skills and abilities in woodwork, learn the correct way to use a range of tools and socialise with other men in the community.

Dennis is a keen fisherman. He loves an afternoon by the water fishing and enjoys finding new spots to try. He also likes visiting national parks and lookouts.

Gardening is another interest of Dennis’. He volunteers at the local community garden and even has his own worm farm!

A VISIT FROM SUSAN TEMPLEMAN MP

Thank you to Susan Templeman and Kim from Susan’s office who visited New Haven Farm Home and the people we support.

Susan and Kim spent several hours at New Haven Farm Home, meeting Ron, Colin, Stephen and John, learning about their interests and the ways they are involved in our community.

Susan also spent time with some of the New Haven Farm Home staff, learning more about out organisation, our dedication to person centred support and discussing ways to better support people living with a disability.

CONGRATULATIONS MILLIE-LEE!

Thank you for your hard work and commitment Millie-Lee!

JUNE 2019 CLIENT UPDATES

New Haven Farm Home clients have been working towards their individual goals over the past few months and have achieved some great things.

Here are just a few!

ROY MOVES HOUSE

Over the years it has been wonderful to see Roy grow in his independence and confidence.

Roy loves going out to the local pub with friends for Trivia nights; going to the races; participating in activities with a local church group; going to the raffles at the club; playing bingo and keeping up to date with local news.

To support Roy in his interests and achieving his goals in regularly getting out and about in the community and participating in regular community based activities with independence, New Haven Farm Home have worked with Roy to enable him to move to one of our Richmond based sites.

Roy is now living with some of his friends and is thriving in his new home. He is now able to walk to the local record store independently and it is great to see him continue to grow in his confidence as a valued community member.
